Our falled-up fireplace mantle was missing a simple centrepiece. I looked around and everything that I found was too big, too small, or too expensive. What do we do when we don't find anything we like? - DIY. So, that's what I did.
I used 4 dollar store acrylic paints that I already had, along with 2 dollar store canvases and some paintbrushes and sponges.
I first covered a canvas in beige paint using a sponge, stroking in the same direction to give it a textured effect.
I repeated on a bigger canvas with dark brown.
I brought in some leaf stamps for the smaller canvas.
I painted the stamps...
...and then of course used them.
For the second painting, I free-handed some swirls and then used a stencil set for the "FALL" lettering. I added several layers of colour to make sure the swirls popped, and uses two colours in the word "fall".
When all was dry, I took an orange, yellow and dark brown crayon and traced the flow of the swirls along with the letters.
If you look at the bottom of the painting compared the top, and the F and A compared to the L's, you can see the difference the crayon makes.
