April 2013 Topbox Review

For April, I received the Elizabeth Arden Prive Topbox. Before this box, I don't think I had ever tried anything Elizabeth Arden, and when I saw that the box came with samples of mascara and foundation, I was sold.

From left to right:

1. Flawless Finish Sponge-On Cream Makeup (Full Size $42): I chose the lightest shade of this foundation available (Vanilla Shell), and of course, it was still too dark for me. Either way, the foundation is creamy and applies well, but it's a bit thick for me. If you're looking for a full coverage foundation that blends easily, this might be for you (I like thinner makeup). I also want to say that I adore the sample packaging for this makeup (no foil packet and no cardboard!), it's such high quality.

2. All Gone Eye and Lip Makeup Remover (Full Size $24): I'm just going to say it- I'm getting a little bit sick of every single Prive Topbox including makeup remover. I'm not into it. Regardless, this product works great (dare I say better than the Clinique makeup remover?). I gave it a try on both my heavy eye makeup and on my lipstick, and I was surprised at how well it came off. This product has no strong smell, is not oily, and I barely had to rub to remove my makeup (only one cotton pad per eye!). I would recommend this remover to anyone.

3. Beautiful Color Lash Enhancing Mascara (Full Size $30): The company claims that this mascara coats, curls, lengthens, and lifts. I'm not so sure. This stuff is absolutely wonderful if you're looking for a light mascara. What I mean by this is that this mascara goes on smoothly, it doesn't clump at all, and it comes off extremely easily. The issue that I have with this product is that it doesn't seem buildable, which is what I like in a mascara. After multiple coats, I didn't find my lashes looking any thicker or longer, only darker (and isn't thinker/longer what most women buy mascara for?). I probably wouldn't repurchase, but as I said, if you're looking for a completely clump free and light mascara, this might be your best bet.

4. PREVAGE Anti-Aging + Intensive Repair Daily Serum (Full Size $275): As with my last few Topbox reviews that included an aging product, I have to state that it's hard to give an accurate review due to the fact that I'm only 22 years old and have only been using the product for a few weeks. Basically, this serum has the typical light serum texture. What I absolutely love about this serum is that it's a glistening orange colour, where I believe the light reflecting specs are supposed to help make skin appear lifted within 15 minutes, and maybe it's just me, but I feel like it works. Further, the serum smells amazing (some type of citrus fruit) which is not so common along anti aging products. I love this stuff, and if you have the cash (a whopping $275), I would tell you to give it a whirl. I also want to note that as with the foundation, I love the high quality sample packing of this serum (no foil packet, and it even comes with a dropper).

Last month's replacement

Remember last month's post when I talked about getting the same sample twice, Topbox's great customer service, and waiting on a replacement? Well, here it is. As a replacement for my duplicate Clinique eyeshadow, I received this:

Shu Uemura Full Shimmer Illuminating Shampoo for Color-Treated hair- First of all, my hair isn't coloured, so this product may not have worked the way it was designed to, but it's still great. It's very thin shampoo and doesn't lather up too well, so if you're looking for a deep clean, this isn't the right product. But, I definitely felt that it gave my hair a "glaze" type texture. It left my hair soft and shiny, as well as smoother than normal, which I can't complain about. I would definitely repurchase, and may also look into other Shu Uemura products.
