High Five for Friday

It's been a crazy week of wrapping up loose ends and being absolutely exhausted.

1. It's Halloween! I have absolutely loved this holiday ever since I became a mom. When the girls get here after school today I'll transform into a makeup artist and stylist and I'm so excited. Stay safe tonight everyone!

Our house all decorated for tonight (featuring Holly)!

2. I know there are a ton of people who think it's absolutely nuts, but I'm so excited for the Christmas spirit to kick in starting tomorrow. I actually just noticed this morning that all of next weeks flyers have Christmas specials. Woo!

3. My maternity leave payments finally got approved and the amount I'll be receiving is actually more than I expected. My stress level has significantly decreased because of this news. As you may know, there is an unpaid waiting period to receive payments and it's hard to get through.

4. I got the news that I was selected for another Influenster campaign. When I get those emails my heart skips a beat. You'll be seeing a post about what I receive soon.

5.  I'm officially 39 weeks pregnant. 1 week to go. Come on baby!

It's About To Get Real

My due date for baby boy is next Friday, November 7th. There are 8 days left until his expected arrival, which means that any day could be the day.

So far, I've seen two different reactions from the girls. Brooke has been very loving and excited all along- hugging me, talking to the baby, asking questions, etc. Holly on the other hand hasn't really cared all too much. I found this extremely weird because the baby will have much more of an effect on Holly than Brooke as Holly lives with us full time and Brooke is only here on weekends.

This uninterested attitude of Holly's has had me worried for a while. Will she be jealous? Will she be angry with me? When Brooke isn't here, will she act out?

These past two weeks as the talk about when the baby will arrive has increased, I've noticed a real change in Holly. She's become absolutely obsessed with both me and the baby- cuddling me, reading and singing to baby, and even talking about how she plans to help. Yesterday when I picked her up from school the first thing she did was get angry that the baby hadn't come yet. She claims she's tired of waiting to see what he looks like. Me too Holly, me too!

This sudden change in her behaviour (plus the fact that everything is finally ready to go for baby) really has me realizing that it's about to get real- I will soon be the mom of a baby boy and the girls will have a baby brother.

I'm ready to meet him!

Halloween Nail Art Featuring the Julep Plie Wand

A little while ago, I posted about how I finally received my Julep Plie Wand but hadn't had time to review. I figured this was the perfect opportunity to get my nails done for Halloween and use the wand for the first time.

I used the wand to create 3 simple designs. Check them out below!

I began by painting 3 stripes (white, orange, and yellow) on my middle finger. I painted each of my other fingers solid black.

Using the Plie wand with the striping brush attachment and black polish, I angled in the sides of my middle fingers to create a candy corn look.

Next, I used the same striping attachment to carefully draw a spider wed on my pinkie. This is where I realized how great the Plie wand really works. My nails are very short and it was extremely easy to get in the small details with the attachments.

I then switched over to the dotting tool attachment and dotted a small pumpkin on my thumb nail. I went back with the striping attachment to create the jack o lantern's face and stem. I then finished with a top coat.

Here's a list of the polishes I used for this look:

White - Sally Hansen's "Natural White" from this set
Yellow - Julep's "Alma"
Brown (pumpkin stem) - Julep's "Alma" mixed with China Glaze's "Liquid Leather"
Green (pumpkin leaves) - I've had this colour for years and sadly, the labels are missing so I have no clue who made it!

I also used Julep's Plie Wand as well as both attachments from the creativity kit.

In case you didn't notice, I had to mix a few colours in this design to create the orange and brown I needed. Orange was easy (because I have so many red and yellow polishes) but brown is a bit more difficult.
It was recently brought to my attention that Julep has the perfect brown (which I need to get immediately) called "Chloe". Check it out in Julep's shop here.

If my Halloween design isn't for you, Julep has a great tutorial for a design that's a bit more complicated. Check it out below!

Wishing everyone and their kiddies have a safe and happy halloween! Happy nail painting!

High Five for Friday

I think I'm getting the hang of this weekly wrap up post and I love it! I also enjoy reading the posts of everyone else linking up. Keep it up!
This week is all about small victories for me:

1. We got outside and enjoyed the fall weather a bit this week. I walked more than I have in weeks (it's getting a little bit difficult for me lately), so I'm pretty proud.

2. I finished up all of the artwork for the baby's room. I then realized we have no screws or anchors, so as soon as I manage to get those I can finally hang everything.

3. I finally got around to writing and sending my baby shower thank-you cards. I'm really glad I remembered to do this before the baby comes.

4. I'm 38 weeks pregnant as of today. I can't believe I made it this far without going crazy. 2 weeks to go!

5. In relation to #4, I didn't gain a single pound this week!

Creamy Tomato Soup

Earlier this week, I included a recipe in my weekly links post. That recipe was for my favourite soup ever. I recently decided that it deserved a whole post of its' own.

I can't remember how, but a year or so ago I stumbled upon the Foodess blog and this recipe.

Due to the extremely simple ingredients, low prep time, and as her comparison to Campbell's tomato soup, I tried it out and fell in love.

For the most part I follow the recipe exactly, but I do add some extra steps to make it my own:

1. After I blend the soup (I use a magic bullet and it works like a charm), I strain it. If you don't strain this soup, you will end up with small bits of tomato skin. Straining it creates the smooth texture found in canned soup.

2. I add noodles. Sometimes I will add 1 full cup of pasta to make the soup more hearty and filling, but I would say that 1/2 cup is more than enough.

If, like me, fall and winter put you into a soup kick, I highly recommend you try out this recipe. It won't dissapoint. I plan on making another double batch tomorrow.

2. My all time favourite soup recipe.

3. I actually love this simple way to update thrift store art.

4. A great list of things to do with your kids the next few weeks.

5. I'm highly considering purchasing this book. I really want to read it before I see the movie.

This Week 23

I missed this series last Friday, so this is a double high five!

1. I'm officially full term- 37 weeks pregnant today! When will baby come? Nobody knows....

2. We finally got the baby's room painted and the crib together. Woo! The only thing left to work on is the small details.

3. I'm 3/4 finished reading Lena Dunham's book "Not That Kind of Girl". It's been months since I've started and finished a book without weeks of lag time. It feels nice!

4. I got enough energy to decorate for halloween last week. I didn't work much on the interior as our house is still kind of dishevelled from moving, but the exterior is looking good.

5. This is the first weekend in like 3 months that our family has had NO plans. I'm so looking forward to wrapping up little projects and relaxing.

My City Finally Has A Sephora!

So just a few weeks ago Sephora opened in Windsor!

Before now I either had to order online, travel 2 hours within Canada, or hop over to Detroit to hit up a Sephora. It was terrible. In January 2014, I got word via the retail store I was working at that a Sephora would be opening at our mall. I was so excited.

Fast forward to now and it's finally open. I took my first trip there last week to grab some bare minerals foundation and to my surprise, they offered me my VIB birthday gift (I completely forgot about it).

Basically, I just had to post about how awesome this is.

How often do you shop at Sephora?

1. I hope everyone had a great thanksgiving weekend (in Canada).

2. This would make a great christmas gift for any little ones you plan on buying for.

3. My girls changed their halloween costumes this weekend, and although our local store is sold out, the Party City website has an awesome 20% off + free shipping deal going on.

4. I really need to invest in a happy kid car kit. These ideas are amazing.

5. I just recently discovered this blog, and ever since I've been considering a capsule wardrobe for after baby comes.

One of my previous headers

I realized last night that yesterday's post was officially my 200th post on Holly Muffin.
Although Holly Muffin has been around since 2009, I haven't posted all too much.
The past 6 years of my life has been an absolute rollercoaster and I'm extremely thankful that I've had this blog as my outlet through it all.
I'm currently preparing for a big life event (the birth of our little boy), which will again bring this blog in a new direction. I will be a full-time stay at home mom for at least the first year of his life, and during this time I am committed to growing and evolving Holly Muffin. I plan on posting more frequently and consistently and dedicating more of my time to generating creative content.
I really hope that you come back and visit over the next few months to see how Holly Muffin grows.

To the next 200+!

My Pregnancy Must Haves

Images via 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

1. Milk. It helps with my heartburn and it goes well with cereal and anything chocolate. I just love milk.

2. I purchased this exact foot roller from ebay last year but have used it more than ever during this pregnancy. It's absolutely incredible and hits all the pressure spots on my feet. Also, you can't beat the price.

3. I don't know why, but I can't get enough Corn Pops cereal. I can finish a box in two days.

4. Cucumbers and vinegar was my favourite snack when I was pregnant with Holly, and this time around it's no different. So crunchy and delicious.

5. This exact pillow has been helping me sleep since my first trimester. It's a little round pillow shaped like a puck and it fits perfectly between my legs at night.

Weekly Links Vol. 7

1. I've been having insane charley horses that jolt me awake at 7 a.m. every day (apparently very common in third trimester). I'll be starting a magnesium supplement today as well as trying some of these tips.

2. Do you check your weekly betchy horoscope?

3. Right now Pretty Handy Girl is doing a series called 31 Days of Handy Home Fixes. They're really speaking to me right now.

4. I plan on starting my fall/halloween decorations this week. Our new house has a big and beautiful brick fireplace, so I'm using these as inspiration.

5. This album brightened by day yesterday. I could totally see Chris doing the spaghetti thing.

This Week 22

Happy October! This week has consisted of a lot of transitioning and stressful moments, but I'm happy to be where I am. Here's the down low:

1. We officially moved in to our new house! It was a lot of stress and craziness, but we did it. We ended up having more help than we thought, so we got to cancel our haul last minute to save a few bucks (I love friends with trucks). Beyond that, we have actually already unpacked like 80% of the house. I think we're doing well.

2. On Tuesday night (3 days after moving in) we ran our dishwasher for the first time and it flooded our entire kitchen and dining room. We didn't notice until the water started coming through the basement ceiling. On the downside, it turns out the previous owners totally lied to us, but on the upside, I got a new dishwasher to match my other new appliances!

3. I finally got to start working on the baby's room. Now that everything is unpacked, I've been able to take stock of what I still need to buy. There's only a month left so it's crunch time now!

Baby room beginnings

4. Holly started at her new school on Monday. She really isn't good with change of any kind, so it hasn't been going the greatest. I'm just happy she'll have over a month to adjust before we throw another curveball at her in the form of a baby brother.

Holly's first day at her new school

5. Our housewarming party is this weekend. I feel a little bit too pregnant to be hosting, but I'm sure it will be fine as long as I can manage to stay up past 9 p.m.

So how was your week?

My First BzzAgent Campaign: Pantene Pro-V Ultimate 10 BB Creme

Image Via BzzAgent
I received my very first Bzz Agent campaign on Friday. I get so excited when I'm chosen for these things. Not only do I love getting free stuff, but I honestly and truly love testing products, reviewing them for others to see, and spreading the word.

When I opened the box, I was extremely surprised to see 3 full sized products. I get a lot of sample shampoos, so this really put a smile on my face. I'll be able to use enough of these products to really get a feel for how they work.

Here's my total review:

Shampoo: I typically have dry scalp as well as dry and frizzy hair. I used this shampoo and haven't felt the itch I usually get with any shampoo besides Head & Shoulders. My entire head feels nourished and smells awesome so I give it a 4.5/5.

Conditioner: This conditioner works extremely well with the shampoo set. It's very lightweight (I'm used to thick and intense conditioners) but somehow still did the job for my hair. My only issue it that my hair is harder to brush than usual after using it. A bit of a thicker formula may work better. I give it a 4/5.

BB Creme: I can't say enough about this creme. It completely transforms my hair. I run it through towel dried hair, let it air dry, and I swear it removed like 2 inches of frizz from my hair. It's incredible smooth and light feeling. I have been recommending this stuff to everyone I know - a definite 5/5.
